Trump says he’s willing to release his tax returns, despite a growing demand from Democrats for more details.
“I’ve been very clear with the American people: I’m going to make sure that we get the information,” Trump said Tuesday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“We have a lot of work to do, but I think it’s important for people to see what’s going on, and if I’m being honest, it’s because we need to know, and it’s really important for us to get the answers to the questions that are being asked.”
“You’re right, I’m very transparent,” Trump added.
“But I also think that we need people to have an accurate understanding of the information that we’re getting.
And I think that’s very important.”
Democrats on Capitol Hill, meanwhile, are pressing for more information.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said on CNN Tuesday that “the information that he’s given us about his taxes and the way he’s spent his money is just not accurate.”
“I think there’s still more questions that need to be answered,” Cummings said.
The White House says Trump has paid “several million dollars” in taxes and said his taxes are under audit.
Trump also claims to be a “good citizen” and said the country has benefited from the billionaire’s business success.
